The article says, “A growing number of health systems are amping up their consumer research investment to enhance patient satisfaction and establish brand loyalty as consumerism takes hold in the industry.” (more…)

I have read and have often written quite a bit about healthcare mergers and acquisitions from the industry perspective. I, for one, happen to believe that done correctly, they are good for the industry as scale can enable more efficiency and productivity.

A new national survey, albeit from the Large Urology Group Practice Association (LUGPA) with a potential vested interest, provides the patient perspective, which is not as optimistic. (more…)

The article notes that “facilities that deliver disappointing patient experiences are four times more likely to have poor reputations” than those that deliver good experiences. It’s important to remember: the patient perception is built on the totality of experiences a patient has at multiple touch points along the patient journey. So smart organizations are going to actively manage those steps within their control, to ensure a positive patient experience.

The article notes that experts forecast supply chain costs will eclipse labor costs and become the new number one cost in healthcare. That shift, in conjunction with deteriorating margins, will force healthcare organizations to increasingly focus on the most effective way to manage their supply chain. (more…)

I am excited to announce that MedSpeed’s Chicago-area operations and central support team recently moved to a new location to better accommodate our growing teams. After years of working in nearby, but separate locations, we are now together in a 40,000 square foot, stand-alone building.

This new location is designed to foster collaboration and camaraderie and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about that. I am also extremely appreciative of our incredible team of MedSpeeders and the trust and confidence of our customers who’ve fostered our growth that made this move necessary.

Thanks to everyone who has made MedSpeed what it is today!

Let’s be clear, I have plenty of skin in this game since developing this type of infrastructure is exactly what MedSpeed does. Recently, I had the opportunity to record a webcast for the Association for Health Care Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) about how strategic same day transportation, what we call intra-company logistics, is the backbone of a successful healthcare supply chain.

I also had the opportunity to talk about why transforming healthcare is paramount to ensuring our organizations, patients & country thrive and how intra-company logistics can play an important role in the process of remaking our healthcare system.

You can watch the short (6-minute) webcast here: Intra-Company Logistics: The Backbone of Your Successful Supply Chain.

Bonni Kaplan DeWoskin, vice president of marketing and strategic partnerships, along with other industry leaders, discusses the impact of same day transportation, what we call intra-company logistics, on healthcare and the reasons this critical function can go unnoticed. Why you can’t cost-cut your way to greatness

I write quite a bit about price versus value and how true partnerships look at overall value received in order to benefit both organizations. When both parties invest in improving and innovating the process and work collaboratively to develop the right cost structure, everyone can end up a winner. As Kate Vitasek notes In one of her recent posts, “Avoiding the Death Spiral,” “you simply cannot cost-cut your way to greatness.”

David Marcelletti, vice chair, supply chain management, Mayo Clinic, said, “Our strategy was to build a high quality intra- and inter-company logistics network that would transform our transportation operations into a strategic asset, providing meaningful, long-term returns across the enterprise. Third-party services play a role in this space because of their competency and agility around building and optimizing the processes, logistics as well as technologies.” (more…)

Fast forward to 2020 and there is no doubt that patients/customers are the starting point for all that happens in healthcare. Yes, patient experience is part of the Triple Aim, but it goes well beyond that. (more…)

Manis asserts that one needs three things in order to transform: 1) knowing what you are today, 2) knowing what you want to become in the future and 3) the fortitude to get there. (more…)

A customer for a number of years, OhioHealth has embraced the concept of leveraging their logistics network to transform it into something bigger and more impactful. One example is how they have leveraged their same day transportation network to meet their service rationalization goals.
