MedSpeeders deliver through the extreme winter storm
Severe winter weather has been sweeping across the country, bringing heavy snow and ice to parts of the country unprepared for it and creating extreme conditions even in states accustomed to winter.
Yet through it all, our MedSpeeders showed up to keep moving healthcare forward. In market after market, our teams adapted quickly, supported one another, and did whatever it took to ensure uninterrupted care delivery for our customers and their patients.
Adapting to the unexpected
In parts of the Southeast, rare snow and ice created immediate travel and operational challenges as infrastructure in these areas is not always designed for sustained winter conditions.
Even so, teams in these markets quickly mobilized – coordinating carpools, consolidating routes, and adjusting schedules to maintain coverage. Some arrived hours before shifts began to ensure on-demand requests could be fulfilled. Others stayed late, worked extended shifts, or came in on scheduled days off to cover open routes. Operations leaders worked alongside frontline team members to ensure continuity in rapidly changing conditions.
Overcoming extreme conditions
Across the Midwest and Northeast, the challenge wasn’t just snow, it was sustained, dangerous cold. Wind chills dropped to 40 degrees below zero, creating risks for both people and equipment.
In these conditions, MedSpeeders worked together to start and stage vehicles early to prevent cold-related mechanical issues, move vehicles indoors in collaboration with customers to protect equipment, and use appropriate vehicles to transport team members safely from neighborhoods affected by snow and ice. They dug out frozen vehicles, prepared fleets for launch, and covered routes across wide geographies to prevent delays in surgeries, lab testing, and pharmacy deliveries.
Resilience when infrastructure failed
In some locations, power outages and internet disruptions added another layer of complexity. Even so, teams found creative ways to keep things moving. Equipment was transported and charged offsite, vehicles were staged in advance, and critical runs were completed before conditions worsened.
Where hubs temporarily paused operations due to infrastructure failure, MedSpeeders coordinated closely to resume service as soon as safely possible, minimizing disruption to healthcare partners.
Protecting critical patient care
Through it all, essential healthcare movements continued.
Critical medications were delivered to hospitals. Time-sensitive specimens, including those for vulnerable newborn patients, were transported to labs and airports to ensure testing timelines were met. Scheduled procedures avoided delay because routes were covered, and handoffs occurred as planned. Each movement was supported by coordinated teamwork focused on protecting continuity of care.
Stronger together
Severe weather tested many markets across our network, but wherever the storm hit, our MedSpeeders delivered. Thank you to the MedSpeeders who showed up, stepped in, worked long hours, and supported one another to keep patient care moving.
