MedSpeeder steps in to help drivers after winter highway accident
Black ice. A spinning car. An unexpected winter storm in Santa Rosa, CA. And a vehicle barely visible from the roadway after sliding into a ditch.
In seconds, a routine morning route became a dangerous situation. But thanks to the quick thinking and compassion of our logistics service representative (LSR), Peter Bellomo, the outcome became a powerful example of true care.
After the car in front of him hit black ice and slid into a ditch, Peter reacted immediately. He safely pulled over, notified his manager, and then headed down the embankment to check on the driver.
Fortunately, the driver was uninjured. Peter helped him to a safer location and invited him into the heated MedSpeed vehicle, offering first aid and staying until authorities arrived.
While assisting the driver another accident occurred about 500 feet away when a semi-truck slid into a ditch. Peter stepped in to help manage traffic and improve visibility until emergency responders arrived.
Even as the storm made the roads treacherous, Peter maintained constant communication with leadership while continuing his route. As Kevin Williams, MedSpeed Operations Manager, said, “Peter’s calm, level-headed approach under pressure reflects exactly what we value at MedSpeed. His focus on both safety and service is a model for everyone on the team.” The route remained on schedule for our customers.
Peter has served the Santa Rosa market for two years, with professionalism and a strong commitment to patient care. He enjoys the long-haul drives between Eureka and Santa Rosa while supporting hospitals and laboratories in remote communities. His commitment to responsible driving has earned him a safety award from his market.
Known for stepping in wherever needed, he maintains on-time performance, handles specimens with care, and helps train new LSRs. As Kacy Wells-Baker, another MedSpeed Operations Supervisor, said, “Peter’s pride in his work and his consistency set a standard for everyone around him. He brings a level of professionalism and reliability that strengthens the whole team.”
Stepping in felt like the right thing to do for Peter, and his actions are a reminder that MedSpeeders do more than deliver. Every day they represent safety, compassion, and dedication to the patients and communities we serve. Thank you, Peter Bellomo, for exemplifying what it means to go the extra mile!
