MedSpeed drives toward a greener future
By Wes Crampton, President of MedSpeed
At MedSpeed our purpose has always extended beyond logistics. As part of the healthcare ecosystem, we strive to “deliver health” as well as meaningful, positive change to the communities we serve.
Today, I’m excited to share a significant milestone on that journey. MedSpeed has officially achieved our “25 by 25” environmental sustainability goal.
Launched late in 2022, our “25 by 25” initiative had a bold objective: transition 25 percent of our eligible vehicle fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) by the end of 2025.
How we got here
Reaching this 25 percent milestone wasn’t simply about acquiring new vehicles. It required a comprehensive, company-wide effort grounded in long-term vision, innovation, and collaboration. From evaluating route data to determine where EVs could have the most impact, to investing in charging infrastructure and fleet technology, every step involved cross-functional teamwork.
Our field operations and analytics teams worked with fleet management providers to identify and deploy the right vehicles for the right use cases. We also collaborated closely with our healthcare customers to ensure that these transitions would not only meet our sustainability goals but enhance the efficiency and reliability of our service. In many instances, our sustainability goals aligned with those of our healthcare customers who also sought to reduce their own organization’s carbon footprint.
Why it matters
According to the EPA, transportation contributes approximately 29 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S.—the largest share of any sector. As a national healthcare logistics provider operating thousands of routes daily, MedSpeed understands the weight of this responsibility.
By shifting a meaningful portion of our fleet to EVs, we’re reducing tailpipe emissions, improving air quality, and taking an active role in promoting healthier communities, particularly in urban areas where pollution from transportation is most concentrated.
As hospitals and healthcare systems work to reduce their environmental impact, having a healthcare logistics partner that prioritizes sustainability creates shared value and amplifies results across the care continuum.
What’s next
Achieving “25 by 25” is a major step, but it’s far from the end of our sustainability journey. We’re committed to scaling EV adoption, exploring emerging low-emission technologies, and continually refining our logistics strategies to minimize our environmental footprint.
This achievement is a testament to what’s possible when purpose, innovation, and partnership come together. To our team members, partners, and customers: thank you for helping us lead the way toward a healthier, more sustainable future.
