A single delayed or incorrect delivery can have serious consequences for both nurses and their patients. Nurses rely on accurate, on-time deliveries to provide seamless care, and any disruption can lead to stress, inefficiencies and even compromised patient safety.  A survey conducted by the American Nurse Journal, underscores just how critical logistics are: 83 percent of nurses said that same-day medical logistics impact their ability to deliver patient care, and 52 percent of nurses said a medical courier error or delay forced them to reschedule a procedure in the past year. Nurses are already facing demanding workloads—logistics should support them, not add more complexity.

The real-world impact of reliable logistics is clear. In our clinical case study a not-for-profit health system in the south was experiencing quality issues with its laboratory courier service. The courier was losing or damaging an average of 17 specimens per week, causing nurse retention challenges, patient satisfaction issues and driving up costs. On two occasions, the system had to repeat invasive biopsies because of these courier errors. By consolidating their logistics operations and implementing strict quality controls with MedSpeed, they turned the situation around. The result? A reduction in specimen handling errors by over 99 percent leading to $400,000 in cost savings. Most importantly, the clinical team was supported to deliver the best patient care.
